     ఒడిశా రాష్ట్రం రాజధాని అయిన భువనేశ్వర్ కు ఈశాన్యం దిశగా, సుమారు 98 కీ.మీ దూరంలో వైతరణీనది తీర ప్రాంతములో జాజపూర్ పట్టణం కలదు.   ఇది జిల్లా కేంద్రం.  జాజపూర్ (jajpur) బస్ స్టాండ్ కు 2 కీ.మీ దూరం లో శ్రీ బిరజాదేవి ఆలయం ఉంది.  ఇది అష్టాదశ శక్తి పీఠాల్లో ఒకటిగా ప్రతీతి.  దక్షిణ భారతీయులు గిరిజాదేవి మరియు విరజాదేవిగా కొలుస్తారు.  బిరజా క్షేత్రం ను " నాభి గయ " అని కూడ పిలుస్తారు.  బిరజాదేవి ఆలయ సింహ ద్వారం తూర్ప అభిముఖంగా ఉంటుంది. ఆలయ ప్రాంగణం చాల విశాలముగా ఉంటుంది.  ప్రధానాలయం తో పాటు నాభి గయ మండపం, డోల మండపం, శ్రీ ఇన్నెశ్వరాలయం (శివాలయం), శ్రీ హనుమాన్ మందిరం, భైరవ, కార్తికేయ, గంగాధర్, విష్ణు రూపాలు, 108 శివ లింగాలు మొదలగునవి ఉన్నాయి.  ప్రధానాలయం నందు శీ బిరజాదేవి అమ్మ వారిని దర్శించగలము.  ముఖ మండపం, అంతరాలయం, గర్భాలయం. కలిగి యున్నాది. ప్రాచీన ఆలయం ను 18 వ శతాబ్ధములో పునరుద్ధరించారు.  గర్భాలయం లోని అమ్మ వారు మహాతేజోమహిమతో అలరారుతుంది. * అమ్మవారి ముఖం మాత్రమే కనిపించేలా మిగతా విగ్రహాన్ని పూలదండలతో బంగారు ఆభరణాలతో అలంకరిస్తారు. 

     మాఘ అమావాస్య నాడు అమ్మ వారి జన్మదిన ఉత్సవాలు వైభవంగా జరుగుతాయి.  వీటిని త్రివేణి అమావాస్య ఉత్సవాలుగా పిలుస్తారు.  దసరా ఉత్సవాలు 16 రోజులు నిర్వహించుతారు.  సింహద్వజగా పిలువబడు రధయాత్ర  అనే పల్లకీ ఉత్సవము యందు జెండా సింహము కలిగి యుంటుంది. నవరాత్రిని అపరాజిత పూజాగా నిర్వహించ బడుతుంది. ఇవే కాక నక్షత్ర, శ్రావణ తదితర పండుగలు చేస్తారు. ప్రతిరోజూ అమ్మవారిని మహిసాసుర మర్ధినిగా  తంత్ర మరియు ఆగమ శాస్త్ర పద్ధతిలో బ్రాహ్మలచే పూజలు జరుపబడతాయి. 

     భారతదేశములో శిరో గయ (బీహర్ గయ),  నాభి గయ (జాజ్ పూర్),  పాద గయ (పిఠాపురం) అను మూడు గయా క్షేత్రములున్నాయి.  గయా క్షేత్రాల్లో  జరుపు శాద్ధ విధులు  వలన పితృ దేవతలుకు శాశ్వత కైవల్యం పొందగలరు  అని గాఢమైన విశ్వాసం  హైందవులుకు ఉంది.  తమ పితృ దేవతలకు పితృ కర్మలు, పిండ ప్రదానములు భక్తి శ్రద్ధలతో గయా  క్షేత్రాలలో  నిర్వహించు చుంటారు.  బిరజాదేవి ఆలయ ప్రాంగణములో ఈశాన్యం వైపు నాభిగయ మండపం ఉండును.  ఇచ్చట గల బావిలో తర్పణాలు విడవడం  జరుగుతుంది.  ఇవి నేరుగా కాశీ చేరుతాయట!

ఇచ్చట గల నాభిగయ యందు పితృ పూజ అనగా పిండ ప్రధానము, తర్పణము, తీర్ధవిధులు పూజారులు జరుపుతారు. ఇందు నిమిత్తము ఈ ఆలయములో పూజారులు అవసరమైన సదుపాయములు కలుగ చేయుదరు. మహాలయ పక్షమునకు ముందు కృష్ణ పక్ష అస్తమినాడు శ్రేష్టం. జాజపూర్ క్షేత్రం నందు శ్రీ త్రిలోచనేశ్వరాలయం, శ్రీ శ్వేతవరాహస్వామి  ఆలయం, శ్రీ జగన్నాథాలయం, వైతరణి నది మొదలగునవి చూడదగినవి.  

* గుప్తాల కాలము నాటి బిరజాదేవి విగ్రహము రెండు చేతులు ఉంటాయి. ఒక చేతిలో మహిసాసురుని రొమ్ము త్రిశూలమును గుచ్చుచూ రెండవ చేతితో మహిషాసురుని (ఎనుబోతు) తోక గట్టిగా లాగుతూ ఒక కాలు సింహము పైననూ మరియొక కాలు మహిషాసురుని రొమ్ముపైన కలిగి ఉండేది. దీని నకలును శ్రీ ముక్తీశ్వర్ ఆలయం (శ్రీ జగన్నాధాలయం) నందు చూడగలము.

     చెన్నై - హౌరా రైలు మార్గంలో భువనేశ్వర్ దాటగానే కటక్ రైల్వే స్టేషన్ వస్తుంది.  ఇక్కడ నుంచి జాజ్ పూర్ కు రవాణా సదుపాయములున్నాయి.  కటక్ రైల్వే స్టేషన్ కు 73 కీ.మీ దూరంలో జాజపూరు-కెంఝార్ రోడ్డు అను రైల్వే స్టేషన్ ఉంటుంది.  ఇక్కడ అన్ని రైలు ఆగుతాయి. రైల్వే స్టేషన్ కు ఉత్తరం వైపుగా కెంఝార్ పట్టణం ఉంటుంది.  రైల్వే స్టేషన్ కు దక్షిణ వైపుగా 30 కీ.మీ దూరాన జాజపూర్ ఉండును.  రైల్వే స్టేషన్ నుంచి జాజ్ పూర్ కు బస్సులు/వేన్లు/టాక్సీలు నిరంతరం బయులుదేరుతాయి.  జాజపూర్ బస్ స్టాండ్ నుంచి శ్రీ బిరజాదేవి ఆలయం మరియు మిగిలన ఆలయాలు సందర్శించుటకు ఆటోలు ఉంటాయి.  యాత్రికులుకు వసతులు జాజ్ పూరు-కెంఝార్ రోడ్డు రైల్వే స్టేషన్ నందు మరియు స్టేషన్ బయట దొరుకుతాయి.

Odhyam Girijadevi (Birajadevi)

The town of Jajpur is located on the coast of the Vaitaranina River, about 98 km north-east of Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha state. It is the district headquarters. Sri Birajadevi temple is located at a distance of 2 km from Jajpur bus stand. It is considered as one of the Ashtadasha Shakti Peethas. South Indians measure Girijadevi and Virajadevi. Biraja Kshetra is also known as "Nabhi Gaya". The lion gate of Birajadevi temple faces east. The temple premises are very spacious. Along with the main temple, there are Nabhi Gaya Mandapam, Dola Mandapam, Sri Inneswaralayam (Shivalayam), Sri Hanuman Mandir, Bhairava, Karthikeya, Gangadhar, Vishnu forms, 108 Shiva Lingas etc. We can visit Shi Birajadevi Amma in the main temple. Mukha mandapam, sanctum sanctorum, sanctum sanctorum. having The ancient temple was restored in the 18th century. Amma in the sanctum sanctorum rejoices with mahatezomahima. *The rest of the idol is decorated with garlands and gold ornaments so that only the face of the goddess is visible.

     On Magha Amavasya, Amma's birthday is celebrated with grandeur. These are known as Triveni Amavasya festivals. Dussehra celebrations are held for 16 days. The palanquin festival called Simhadwaja, called Radhyatra, carries a lion on its flag. Navratri is celebrated as Aparajita Puja. Apart from this, Nakshatra, Shravana and other festivals are performed. Every day Goddess is worshiped as Mahisasura Mardhi by Brahmins in Tantra and Agama Shastra style.

     There are three Gaya Kshetras in India namely Shiro Gaya (Bihar Gaya), Nabhi Gaya (Jajpur) and Pada Gaya (Pitapuram). Hindus have a deep belief that due to the saddha duties performed in Gaya Kshetras, one can get eternal blessings to the paternal gods. Pitru karmas and pinda pradanas are performed in Gaya kshetras with devotion to their paternal deities. In the courtyard of Birajadevi temple, there is a nabhigaya mandapam on the north-east side. Tarpanas are broken in the well here. These directly reach Kashi!

Pitru Pooja i.e. Pinda Pradhana, tarpana and tirdhavidhus are performed by the priests in this Nabhigaya. For this purpose, the priests will provide necessary facilities in this temple. Before Mahalaya Paksha, Krishna Paksha is best for asthma. Sri Trilochaneswara Temple, Sri Shwetavarahaswamy Temple, Sri Jagannathalayam, Vaitarani River etc. are worth seeing in Jajapur Kshetra.

* The Gupta period idol of Birajadevi has two hands. In one hand she pierced Mahisasura's breast with a trident and with the other hand she held the tail of Mahisasura (Enubotu) tightly, with one leg on the lion and the other leg on Mahisasura's breast. A copy of this can be seen in the Sri Muktiswar Temple (Sri Jagannathalaya).

Cuttack railway station comes after passing Bhubaneswar on the Chennai-Howrah railway line. From here there are transport facilities to Jajpur. Jajapur-Kenjhar road railway station is 73 km from Cuttack railway station. All trains stop here. To the north of the railway station is Kenjhar town. Jajpur is 30 km south of the railway station. There are regular buses/vans/taxis plying from the railway station to Jazpur. From Jajapur bus stand there are autos to visit Sri Birajadevi temple and other temples. Accommodation for pilgrims is available both inside and outside the Jazpur-Kenjhar road railway station.
