ఒకప్పుడు సింహళ ద్వీపం కూడ భారత ఖండం లో ఉండేది. సింహళ ద్వీపం శ్రీలంకగా ప్రసిద్ధి గాంచినది. ఇప్పుడు భారత దేశం కు పొరుగు దేశంగా శ్రీలంక ఉంటుంది. భారత దేశం కు దక్షిణ దిశగా హిందూ మహాసముద్రం గల ఒక ద్వీపం "శ్రీలంక దేశం". శ్రీలంక రాజధాని కోలంబో నగరం. భారత నుంచి కోలంబో కు విమాన సర్వీసులున్నాయి. శ్రీలంక ద్వీపం నందు ఉత్తర-తూర్పు తీర ప్రాంతములో ట్రింకోమలి (Trincomalee) పట్టణం ఉంటుంది. శ్రీలంకలోని ప్రధాన నగరాల్లో ఒకటైన దంబుల్లా నుంచి ట్రింకోమలీ మధ్య దూరం సుమారు 106 కిలోమీటర్ల గా ఉంటుంది. ట్రింకోమలి అంటే త్రిభుజం ఆకారంలో ఉన్న కొండ అని అర్థం. ట్రింకోమలి ఆగ్నేయం దిశగా, సముద్రతీరాన ఒక ఎత్తైన కొండ పైన శ్రీ శాంకరీదేవి ఆలయం ఉండేదిట! ప్రకృతి వైపరీత్యలు కారణముగా కాల గర్భములో కలసిపోయి ఉండవచ్చు.

శ్రీ శాంకరీదేవి కొండకు సమీపంలో గల మరో కొండ పైన శ్రీ కోనేశ్వరం కోవిల్ (శివాలయం) కలదు. సముద్రంలోకి చొచ్చుకువచ్చిన ఎత్తయిన పర్వతంపై త్రికోనేశ్వరం ఆలయం కనిపిస్తుంది. ఇది తమిళ ద్రావిడి శిల్పకళా నైపుణ్యానికి తార్కాణం. శివలింగాన్ని శ్రీరాముడు ప్రతిష్ఠించినట్లుగా చెప్పుతారు. శ్రీ కోనేశ్వరం (శివాలయం) ప్రాంగణములో వివిధ సన్నిధిలు ఉంటాయి. వీటిలో శ్రీ శాంకరీదేవి సన్నిధి కూడ కలదు. హిందూవులు శాంకరీదేవి పీఠంగా ఆరాధించుతారు. పూజారి కథనం ప్రకారం, 17వ శతాబ్దంలో పోర్చుగీసువారి దాడిలో శాంకరీదేవి ఆలయం ధ్వంసం అయింది. ఆ దాడిలో కొండ పైన ఒంటరి స్తంభం మాత్రమే మిగిలింది. 2005లో శ్రీలంక ప్రభుత్వం అమ్మవారి విగ్రహం ను ప్రస్తుతం కోనేశ్వరం ఆలయంలో భద్రపరచినారు అని చెబుతారు. శ్రీ ఆదిశంకరాచార్యులు రచించిన "అష్టాదశ శక్తిపీఠం" అను శ్లోకం లో "లంకాయం శంకరీ దేవి" పీఠం మొదటదిగా పేర్కొనారు. మిగిలనవి భారత దేశములోనే ఉన్నాయి. శక్తేయులు శ్రీ శాంకరీదేవి పీఠం సందర్శించుటకు శ్రీలంక లోని శ్రీ కోనేశ్వరం కోవిల్ కు వెళ్ళుచుంటారు.

శ్రీలంకలో ముఖ్యముగా శ్రీ కాళీ దేవాలయం, రావణ ఫాల్స్, చైన్మయ మిషన్ ఆంజనేయ టెంపుల్, సీతాదేవి అగ్ని పరీక్ష చేసిన స్ధలం మొదలగునవి. శ్రీలంక రాజధాని కోలంబో నుంచి ట్రింకోమలి (వయా) దంబుల్లా (Dambulla) దూరం సుమారు 268 Kms. భారత దేశములో అన్ని ముఖ్య పట్టణములు నుంచి శ్రీలంక టూర్ ప్యాకేజీలు దొరుకుతున్నాయి. Once the Sinhala island was also in the Indian continent. The Sinhala island is popularly known as Sri Lanka. Now Sri Lanka will be a neighbor of India. "Sri Lanka" is an island in the Indian Ocean south of India. Colombo is the capital city of Sri Lanka. There are flights from India to Colombo. The town of Trincomalee is located on the north-eastern coast of the island of Sri Lanka. The distance between Dambulla, one of the main cities in Sri Lanka, and Trincomalee is about 106 kilometers. Trincomalee means triangle shaped hill. To the south-east of Trincomalee, there was a temple of Sri Sankaridevi on top of a high hill on the seashore! Natural calamities may be involved in Kala garbha as the cause.

On top of another hill near Sri Sankaridevi hill is Sri Koneswaram Kovil (Shivalam). The Trikoneswaram temple is visible on a high mountain jutting into the sea. It is a reference to Tamil Dravidian craftsmanship. Shivalinga is said to have been consecrated by Lord Rama. There are various sannidhis in the premises of Sri Koneswaram (Shivalayam). Among these there is the presence of Sri Shankari Devi. Hindus worship Shankari Devi as Peetha. According to the story of the priest, Shankaridevi temple was destroyed during the Portuguese invasion in the 17th century.In that attack, only a lone pillar remained on top of the hill. It is said that in 2005 the Sri Lankan government preserved the idol of Ammavari in the present Koneswaram temple. "Lankayam Shankari Devi" Peetha is mentioned first in the hymn "Ashtadasa Shaktipeetham" written by Sri Adisankaracharya. The rest are in India. Shakteyus go to Sri Koneswaram Kovil in Sri Lanka to visit Sri Sankaridevi Peetha.
